Physical Education (PE)
Physical Education is intended to encourage maximum participation and enjoyment through high-quality teaching that supports, challenges and inspires all children to succeed in PE. At Headlands, we aim to encourage children to develop a love and appreciation for physical activity, healthy living, and sport. We provide opportunities for pupils to become physically confident, to develop their health and fitness, to build character and to help to embed values such as fairness, respect and good sporting behaviour.
We believe in an inclusive curriculum which provides all pupils with the opportunity to experience and engage in a range of sports; including swimming, gym, dance, athletics and games. Pupils will be taught to how to apply and develop a broad range of skills; to use them in different ways and to link them to make actions and sequences of movement. They will be encouraged to communicate, collaborate and compete with each other. As well as understanding how to improve, evaluate and recognise their own success. At all times, pupils will be expected to demonstrate an awareness of safe practices and procedures in every area of physical education, including the ability to handle and use apparatus and equipment safely. We utilise the Get Set 4 PE Scheme of learning to achieve this.
