History

At Headlands we want our pupils to experience the full richness our our nation and the wider world and we believe that to fully appreciate our place in time, we must have a good understanding of the history of our islands and the world we inhabit. To approach this, we have separated history into two units broadly based on British History and World History in all years. We teach history chronologically from Year 3 upwards to help children make sense of time as they build their historical knowledge. We cover key themes across school such as empire and civilisation. We include the word 'importance' in our curriculum in place of the word 'significance' while examining key moments in history - this is to ensure that children learn at their own level of understanding while exploring historically significant moments in time.

Our learning is separated into four aspects of history:

Historical Knowledge   -   Historical Enquiry   -   Historical Interpretation   -    Chronology

We offer our children lots of opportunities to draw their own conclusions from information presented within our lessons and teachers ensure children will learn agreed key knowledge across the curriculum.
