Art
At Headlands, we have centred our art curriculum around a bespoke and progressive scheme of learning. Using painting as our key driver for art, we have developed an approach that fosters careful consideration around the techniques the children use as they move through school. This includes colour theory, paintbrush handling and care, use of palettes for mixing and exposure to exciting and inspiring artists that represent different themes in the curriculum. Sculpture and drawing supports this approach and children have the opportunity to build their artistic knowledge as the progress through school. In sculpture, the children focus on the themes of shape and form, learning how sculptors traditionally work, developing increasingly complex approaches as they move through the curriculum/ In drawing, the children explore movement, material, highlight, shade and scale.
