Science at Headlands

At Headlands, we follow the Plymouth Science Scheme of Learning. We believe that science plays an important part in everyday life.  We aim, through challenging, exciting and well-structured learning enquiries, to make science interesting, accessible and enjoyable for all our children. Children explore science through scientific enquiry which includes:

  • Identification
  • Classification/grouping
  • Find or notice patterns
  • Comparing similarities and differences
  • Research
  • Observation
  • Fair testing

Each unit of work links to biology, chemistry or physics and provides a strong foundation for children next steps in learning. We try to give children as many opportunities as possible to build first hand experience.

We challenge pupils to work scientifically in the following ways:

  • Record using scientific diagrams, tables and graphs
  • Observe and raise and answer questions
  • Explain their thinking via models and diagrams
  • Carry out tests and investigations
  • Make predictions
  • Evaluate investigation and findings
