We are writing to you to share more information regarding the closure of the Year Six Bubble. We were informed this lunchtime, Wednesday 7th July 2021, that a member of the Year Six Bubble has received a positive COVID 19 test results using a lateral flow test. This now needs to be confirmed using a PCR test. In the meantime, all staff and children in the Year Six Bubble must self-isolate. If the results of the PCR test is negative, all pupils and staff will be allowed back into school. However, if the results of the PCR test is still positive, all pupils and staff will only be permitted to return to school once their isolation period has ended. Confirmation of the isolation period will follow once the PCR result is received (we expect this to be within the next 24 hours). All staff and children in the Year Six Bubble should not leave their house or garden during the isolation period. Siblings of the Year 6 pupils can continue to attend school. You do not need to arrange a test for your own child or any other member of your household unless they begin to display symptoms within the isolation period. During the isolation period, if your child or anyone in your household develops symptoms and tests positive for Coronavirus, please inform school immediately.
Our aim will be to provide learning opportunities and support that reflects our learning in the classroom at this time in the academic year. We also recognise that a bubble closure could present difficulties for many families. However, it is vital that all children continue with their learning using the tasks that we have provided for their personal development. We understand that home learning is not ideal and we appreciate your ongoing support. If the PCR tests are positive and a prolonged isolation period is required, we anticipate that the live sessions will take place at 9:30am and 11:00am each day. At the moment, we are unsure exactly what content will be delivered by teachers during the live lessons – they will begin planning this later today. In school, the children were being engaged in a range of transition tasks/activities to prepare them for high school so it is possible that some of the Remote Learning content we offer may reflect this rather than the usual English or Maths sessions that you have come to expect. Teachers will use Microsoft Teams to provide a home learning experience through the use of both live and pre-recorded lessons as well as uploaded tasks and quizzes – just like they did during the first half of the Spring Term and during the last Year 6 bubble closure. In addition to the above, children could continue to read their school library books and practice mathematical skills using sites such as TTRockstars, MyMaths and Spelling Shed. We anticipate that live teaching will begin from tomorrow.
As your child is in KS2, you are entitled to some support regarding IT devices. If your child does not have access to an electronic device such as a laptop, we will be able to provide them with a loan device. If the results of the PCR tests are positive and a prolonged isolation period is required, we will send a text home to all Year 6 parents about electronic devices. Please respond promptly to when you receive this text if you require us to organise a loan device for your child. We anticipate that this text will be sent in the next 24 hours. Please note, that all loan devices must be returned to school by pupils at the end of the isolation period.
If you or your child have any questions about the work set or if you are struggling to access the live lessons, the Year Six teachers can be contacted during school hours via the email address listed below;
If your child is usually eligible for FSM, we will complete an automatic referral on your behalf once the outcome of the PCR tests is known. You will then be contacted by the Kirklees Local Welfare team. We send our best wishes to all families associated with our school in the hope that you stay safe and healthy in the weeks to come.
